Work
Visa for Dependent Work
Your
prospective Italian employer must file the paperwork for you to get
a work permit. You cannot do this, nor can an employment agency. For
this reason alone, Americans have a difficult time getting work permits
for Italy. European Union citizens require much less paperwork, and
are much easier for Italians to employ.
The
prospective employer must get clearance from the local Ufficio Provinciale
del Lavoro e della Massima Occupazione (Provincial Office of Work and
of Maximum Occupation). This permit can only be obtained if the employer
can show that there are no Italians, and sometimes no EU citizens, available
and qualified to do the job. At this point, the employer must get permits
from the larger regional and central authorities. All of these must
include the proper tax stamps from the Italian police.
When
you receive your work permit, you may then apply for your work visa.
This must be done in the United States. The application process requires
originals and copies of the following:
•
your passport valid for three months after the end of your proposed
stay
• a passport sized photo
• a completed application signed in the presence of the Consulate
• your work permit
